History
Mutanafisun
Academy
started in 1999, by a group of
Boston
area Muslim home schooling families who joined their efforts, to provide their
children with a richer learning experience. In its different incarnations, it
has been a home schooling cooperative, a Preschool cooperative, with triple the
students and staff, and in 2001, we expanded further into an Academy and
received approval from the superintendent of the Quincy School Department.
Since then we have been working diligently on developing a strong academic and
religious curriculum, as well as teaching methods, which equip our
graduates with tools for success in this life and the next.".
Our
Mission
To
provide students with a challenging and stimulating environment that will
nurture their natural desire to learn.
To instill the desire to
implement their knowledge and skills in Allah's service.
To become truly God-fearing
individuals whose main concern is improving their lives and the lives of those
around them.
Highlights
*Our
primary goal is to seek Allah’s pleasure and guidance by fostering
an Islamic environment modeled on the Islam practiced and taught by
our Prophet (peace be upon him) to his companions (may Allah be pleased with
them all).
*
It
is our hope to fill our school with mutual love, harmony, respect, tolerance,
patience, friendship and fear of Allah (SWT).
*
Our
teachers are highly qualified and have long histories educating and
nurturing children. They love their
careers and this shows in their interactions with their students.
*
We
keep Qur'an
and Arabic in their rightful positions as core subjects four times a week
each. As a result our students excel and develop strong skills in these
areas, propelling their ebadah in their later years.
*
Our
computer lab has full internet access and is open for students to complete
research projects. All grades have weekly computer
instruction
with a qualified computer teacher.
*
Mutanafisun
Academy
is located inside of The Islamic
Center of New England
(
Quincy
,
MA
). As part of our school's integration into the larger masjid community,
we make salat behind the Imam, and have ample opportunities to practice elements
of deen such as community service, charity, and brotherhood.
*
Our
teacher student ratio is 8 to 1. Classes are small enough for each student
to learn, and grow towards their potential. No student goes unnoticed or
unchallenged.
*
We use the DISTAR reading program in our Kindergarten
1 class, providing a strong beginning in language arts. As a result
these students have ease and confidence as they strengthen reading and
writing skills in
K2
. This early success also fosters a lasting positive outlook on school.
*
Assigned
homework is a meaningful continuation of classroom learning. Journals,
practice and projects compliment and enhance the regular classroom
curriculum. It's not
boring busy
work.
*
The Harcourt and McGraw-Hill
curricula help our students develop scaffolded and progressive skill sets
which are reinforced throughout their elementary years.
*
The
Engrade grading system is used for grades 1 through 5. This enables the
parents to follow their child's grades, missing work, etc. so that parents
remain active participants in their child’s learning.
*
Our
morning assemblies re-enforce our motto of striving through "sincere
worship of Allah, Upright Character, and Academic Scholarship" through
weekly memorization of hadith and dua with explanations.
